What is Carisoprodol?

CARISOPRODOL is a muscle relaxant. Carisoprodol is used to relieve muscle spasms and pains associated with acute injuries. It should only be used for a short time and should be combined with rest, physcial therapy or other non-drug therapies. Generic carisoprodol tablets are available.



Who should not take carisoprodol?

Carisoprodol should not be used by anyone with acute intermittent porphyria. Those with drug or alcohol addictions should be carefully supervised, since codeine can be habit forming. Anyone who has a bleeding or blood-clotting disorder, kidney disease, an ulcer in your stomach or intestines, urinary retention, hypothyroidism, an enlarged prostate, a head injury, liver disease, or Addisons disease should talk to their doctor before taking Carisoprodol. You may not be able to take Carisoprodol, or may need supplemental monitoring or a lower dose in order to safely use this medication. Do not take Carisoprodol together with aspirin if you are pregnant or breastfeeding unless you have talked to your doctor about it. Children under 12 should not use Carisoprodol.



How should I take carisoprodol?

* Take carisoprodol exactly as directed by your doctor. If you do not understand these directions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you.

* Take each dose with a full glass of water.

* The maximum amount of carisoprodol you should take in one day is 1,400 mg (4 tablets).

* Store carisoprodol at room temperature away from moisture and heat.



What happens if I miss a dose?

* Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take only your next regularly scheduled dose. Do not take a double dose of this medication. Try to keep your doses at least 4 hours apart.



What happens if I overdose?

* Seek emergency medical attention.

* Symptoms of a carisoprodol overdose include low blood pressure (weakness, fainting, confusion), decreased breathing, and unconsciousness.
